Be a Potter
in rural Nara

Come, away from cities into mountains, calm yourself in a quiet temple, then empty your mind creating a pottery.
A day of mindfulness

Tour Description

“I wish my guests were here.” One of our guides thought when she visited a temple in rural Nara. The place was peaceful. We also happen to know a potter from the area. So here is a plan for a day trip to rural Nara!

Highlights:

Muroji Temple

Muroji Temple is famous among locals for its natural beauty. Autumnal leaves and spring flowers attract people to this Buddhist temple. It enshrines statues designated as national treasures and important cultural properties. The temple has been here in a mountain of Nara since the mid-ninth century.

Pottery Lesson

Time to release your creativity! Meet a local potter and make a memento of Nara at his private studio.

Painting Plan: Choose a cup and decorate with your design.

Pottery Plan: Craft your own pottery. It can be a cup, a bowl, a mug, a plate, etc. Work with a hand-turned pottery wheel or an electric pottery wheel.

*The number of electric pottery wheels is limited (two wheels).

Local Cuisine

Enjoy local cuisine. The pictures show set meals by Hashimotoya, an inn by Muroji Temple, that use local harvests.
