FAQs: Walking Tours

How do I get to Nara from Kyoto (or Osaka)?

You can take JR Nara line’s “Miyakoji” Kaisoku express from Kyoto and it takes about 45 minutes. If you are in Osaka, it will take about 50 minutes by either JR Kansai line or Kintetsu Nara line. If you are not sure how to get to our meeting point, let us know. We’ll be very happy to help you!

When and where can I meet my guide for your daily walks?

Our regular Nara Park Classic Tour departs at 10:00 am at JR Nara station (just outside of central exit). Your guide will have a white flag bearing the name “NARA WALK”.

I'm with children. How much is the tour fee for a child?
Our tours are free for children aged five and under, joining with parents. For children aged six to twelve, please see tour pages for exact price.
I'm visiting Nara in January. Is there any chance I can join the daily walk in Nara Park?

Our Nara Park Classic Tour does not run between Dec.1 and Feb.28. You can take a private tour instead. Please make a reservation from our reservation form with a note that you would like to follow the daily tour route.

Is lunch included in your daily tours?
Lunch is not included in the tour, but your guide can recommend good authentic restaurants that suit your budget.
Can I always see deer during your daily tour?

Definitely. There are 1000 plus wild deer in Nara Park. You can feed them with deer crackers sold at the stands in the park.

Do the tours ever get cancelled for weather?

Tours take place rain or shine. We may cancel the tour if weather conditions are dangerous.

What should I wear?

Please dress appropriately for the weather. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

I reserved Horyuji afternoon tour. Is it possible to join your daily walks in the morning on the same day?

In that case, we recommend that you take our “Todaiji and Horyuji one-day tour” instead. You will still get to see the Great Buddha and other major spots in Nara park in the morning, and enjoy Horyuji in the afternoon.
